I took up photography after retiring, so I'm still very much a novice, and still learning.
I started with no photographic knowledge, and spent many hours watching YouTube videos and reading forums.

After a series of "point and shoot" cameras I bought a bridge camera which was a vast improvement.
Then in 2015 I bought my first SLR camera, an Olympus OM-D E-M1 mk1 and later added a mk2.
I've been using those two and a selection of their PRO lenses ever since: I love them.

I built "Bob's Photo Gallery" as somewhere to keep my photos, and to share them to anyone interested.
The gallery is mostly a mixture of memories, road trips, days out and my love of American motorsports, classic cars and hot rods.
For classic car lovers I've added keywords to each photo, enabling full search facilities like make, model year, registration number etc.

I originaly hosted this site on a Dell OptiPlex 3040 SFF running a virtual Ubuntu Server under Proxmox
However, in Dec 2025 I moved the site to a Dell OptiPlex 7050 SFF which is slightly faster and now has a 1TB SSD, so plenty of space for new photos to come. I decided to abandon Proxmox and now run Ubuntu Server with a LAMP stack, in the dedicated machine. It runs 24/7 and has a UPS to protect against power cuts.

For anyone wondering about the domain name, G4XCA is my amateur radio callsign, issued by OFCOM back in March 1984.
