The site of "Custer's Last Stand"
On June 25th and 26th 1876, 263 soldiers, including Lt. Col. George A. Custer and attached personnel of the US Army, died fighting several thousand Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors.
The headstones are where soldiers and their Indian scouts died (They were later moved). The Indians removed their own dead.
